Christmas Bureau 2020 Update

Dear Christmas Bureau Families,

We are sending you this letter to update you on the current status of this year’s Christmas Bureau.  There has been a major change with our toy and book distribution this year due to the recent rise in COVID19 cases and the new restrictions set in place to keep our community safe. 

We are no longer able to distribute the toys and books at the Fairgrounds as planned this year.  The staffing, logistics and safety requirements for our volunteers and staff, is more than can be safely managed at this point, even in a drive through model at the Fairgrounds.

We realize this is hard news to receive in the midst of all the other impacts the pandemic has had on all our lives. We too are so sad that we cannot all be together at the Fairgrounds this year.  The health and safety of you, your families and our volunteers and staff is what matters to us the most. 

Even though you cannot come to the Christmas bureau this year, we can bring a part of the Christmas Bureau to you! The good news is that our team will keep working to assist the same number of people this year that we would normally serve every year.  We will be keeping our Christmas bureau application open longer to give out grocery vouchers to any new families who have not had the chance to apply for assistance. 

Additionally, we are going to attempt to issue an additional voucher which can be used to buy toys to our recipients on a limited basis.  We know that for some of our recipients the toy picked up at the Christmas Bureau may be the only toy under the tree on Christmas day and we still want to help you.  If you feel you need this extra assistance, please send an email to us at christmas.bureau@cceasternwa.org with the subject, “TOY VOUCHER”. Please include your name, address and phone number and share details about your circumstances in no more than 3-4 sentences and we will do our best to find you additional help as our resources allow. 

Lastly, please know that we are here for you. We have emergency services such as rent and utility assistance available for families in critical need.  Please reach out to us via email at info@cceasternwa.org at or call our Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance at (509) 456-2253 and we will work to help you through this holiday season.  Catholic Charities and Volunteers of America, the two hosts of the Christmas Bureau, have a wide range of other services and resources that are available to all of our recipients and we are here to help!

Christmas Bureau FAQ's

  • I received an email with my toy pick-up date and time at the Fairgrounds. Can I still drive through to pick-up toys on my assigned date? 

    • No, there will be no gift pick up at the Fairgrounds.  This part of the operation has been CANCELLED due to COVID-19 restrictions.  If you are in critical need, please email  Christmas.bureau@cceasternwa.org with the subject “TOY VOUCHER”.  In the body of the email list your full name, address and phone number with 3-4 sentences describing your circumstances. 

    • You can still use the GROCERY VOUCHER that you have already received in the mail. The grocery voucher expires Dec. 31, 2020.  

  • If I already applied online for Christmas Bureau toys do I have to apply again for a toy voucher? 

    • Please DO NOT apply again through the website. Instead, you will need to send an email to Christmas.bureau@cceasternwa.org with the subject “TOY VOUCHER”.  In the email list your full name, address and phone number with 3-4 sentences describing your circumstances. 

  • What are toy vouchers, and how will they be distributed?  

    • The toy vouchers are additional voucher dollars to help purchase toys. These toy vouchers will be mailed to you.  There is a limited amount of toy vouchers available. If you are in need please do not apply again through the website.  Instead, you will need to send an email to Christmas.bureau@cceasternwa.org with the subject “TOY VOUCHER”.  In the email list your full name, address and phone number with 3-4 sentences describing your circumstances.  

  • What is meant by "limited basis" regarding the toy vouchers?  

    • Unfortunately, we do not have enough toy vouchers for everyone who applied to the Christmas Bureau. Toys are purchased throughout the year, and the toy vouchers come from other funds which we are currently raising money for. We will do the best we can for the most families that we can. First come, first service.  

  • What is the likelihood that homeless families will not receive anything but the grocery voucher?  

    • We will do our best to prioritize homeless families as we know these families are dealing with additional hardship, but resources are limited.  If you are in need please do not apply again through the website.  Instead, you will need to send an email to Christmas.bureau@cceasternwa.org with the subject “TOY VOUCHER”.  In the email list your full name, address and phone number with 3-4 sentences describing your circumstances. 

  • How are you distributing the grocery vouchers?  

    • When you apply online this year via the Christmas Bureau website you will receive or may have already received a grocery voucher in the mail. If you have already applied, please do not apply again. 

  • What if I haven’t applied for a grocery voucher yet?   

    • We will keep the application open until December 14th or until our funds run out for new applicants only. If you have already applied DO NOT apply again.  

  • What if someone wants to apply but doesn’t have the internet?  

    • They can call (509) 358-4250 and leave a voicemail via our Christmas Bureau inbox.  We will assist as many clients as we can, given the circumstances. No need to call twice. We will return your message if we can assist you.  

FYI- We may need to share your name and mailing address with a third party to distribute the second toy voucher if you are selected,
