Media Statement in Response to

Mayor Brown’s Emergency Declaration

We fully support and applaud Mayor Brown’s signing of an Emergency Declaration to combat the fentanyl and opioid crisis that is harming so many people in our community. We are pleased to have more police and fire resources focused on the area of 2nd and Division. We have been asking for years for more law enforcement in this area to make it safer for our clients, staff and our neighbors.

It is important to note that one of the individuals mentioned as a drug dealer at today’s news conference, a Mr. Kosnicki was not a Catholic Charities resident.

Again, we are pleased with today’s announcement bringing a coordinated effort to stem the fentanyl crisis and more comprehensively address the homeless issue in Spokane.
