In a recent video, Rob McCann Catholic Charities CEO speaks out against racism and racist policies.

USCCB has said the following, which is the basis for the video about my thoughts on racism in the Church:

  • “Racism is an evil which endures in our society and in our Church” –(USCCB Pastoral Letter on Racism –“Brothers and Sisters to Us” 1979)

  • “The truth I s that the sons and daughters of the Catholic Church have been complicit in the evil of racism” -  (USCCB pastoral letter on racist “Open wide our Hearts” 2018)

  • “We also realize the ways that racism has permeated the life of the Church and persists to a degree today” (USCCB pastoral letter on racism “Open wide our Hearts” 2018)

  • “Not long ago, in many Catholic parishes, people of color were relegated to segregated seating, and required to receive the Holy Eucharist after White parishioners.  Acts of racist has been committed by leaders and members of the Catholic Church – by bishops, clergy, religious and laity – and her institutions” (USCCB pastoral letter on racism “Open wide our Hearts” 2018)

  • “The Church cannot remain silent about the racist  injustices in society and its own structure” (USCCB pastoral letter on racist “Open wide our Hearts” 2018)
