This Week God Brought Us: Tanya

She came in the door on a Monday morning, dressed for her first day of a new job at Safeway. She had been working in a medical setting, but was also taking college courses toward a degree. Her class schedule and work schedule were not compatible and the employer let her go, so even though she had quickly found new employment, she was behind on rent and had a notice. Tanya grew up in Spokane, but left in 1999 for Florida with her husband. Now a widow, she returned in mid-2024.  She lives by herself and is anxious about her young adult daughter who just followed her to Spokane, pregnant and leaving abuse. Tanya had successfully secured $400 from her own church toward her owing rent. When we spoke to the property manager, Diane, she raved about what a good tenant Tanya is and how well she communicates.  Once Diane had received the partial funds that Tanya had rounded up, she sent us an updated ledger and we are able to cover the rest of her owing balance from funds from Wellpoint, bringing her current.  When we finalized all of this with Tanya, she teared up because the anniversary of her husband’s death was coming up and this time of year is hard for her.
