This Week God Brought Us... "Molly"

This week God brought us…”Molly”, who first came to the attention of one of our offices outside of Spokane County. Molly lives on the East Coast and came to Eastern Washington with a neighbor who was driving out to take care of a family member. Maybe it was just an adventure to see something new. They arrived to find that the family member was now in a nursing home and no longer needed the help and also that the car they drove had broken down. Now stranded and with only a small disability income, Molly was stuck. Our office connected Molly to the area’s coordinated assistance network, which sprang into action. They verified Molly’s situation, including her developmental delay and that her family back East could receive her safely. The hat was passed amongst churches and agencies, and a Greyhound bus ticket was purchased and a volunteer found to drive Molly into Spokane to the bus terminal. At this writing, she’s back home. Our staffer who first encountered Molly described her this way:  “ [Molly] started reaching out to groups to find out how to get back home. She had several barriers to overcome such as her inability to comprehend how to get back home and a service animal. Her income would not be replenished until July 1 otherwise she would have bought her own ticket, however, her ability to navigate buying the ticket was just also an issue. She is innocent and trusting and anxious about everything.” This was a perfect example of an unusual situation met with curiosity and compassion and a community of resources pulling together. Let us say “Amen!”
