This Week God Brought Us: Tom & Cindy

Along with their teenage son, they were displaced when a tree fell on their apartment during a December windstorm, rendering it uninhabitable. After receiving short-term help from the Red Cross and various friends, they found a room in a modest hotel while they recovered and sorted out their next steps. This consumed almost all of their own resources. Cindy receives disability income and Tom was not able to continue working while moving the household and trying to recover belongings from the destroyed apartment. They were referred to us through their son’s school.  Because we have funds for weather-related disasters, we were able to respond. Cindy and Tom hustled and found another apartment quickly, affordable for them and in their son’s school district.  $3,100 was needed for a deposit and other move-in costs. Who among us has $3,100 available on short notice? With thanks to God, we were able to cover their move-in costs. The best news was that Tom was then hired as the on-site maintenance man for the very same apartment complex, meeting a second need in one fell swoop.

Tom & Cindy are every family, living month to month in a mix of hope and anxiety, and we are blessed to serve them.
