This Week God Brought Us... "Burt"

This week God brought us…”Burt”, who lives on a backroad in a rural northern county.  Burt’s home burned down in one of this summer’s wildfires. He owns the land and is making do in an RV for the near term. Burt does not have internet access and doesn’t really take part in life online. So when he called us, it was our first contact with him as a fire survivor. We discussed his situation and agreed on two ways we could assist meaningfully. We mailed Burt a PEX card – these are VISA-backed cash cards that we load with funds that can be used for a variety of needs. Most evidence shows they are used for basics like gas, groceries, hygiene, clothing, etc. Burt drives a 30 year old SUV and he shared that it needed significant repairs – front end, tie rods, ball joints, etc. – to make it roadworthy before the snow flies. Again, he lives on a backroad accessed from other backroads and it’s a long drive over the hills to get to town. Burt arranged for us to get an estimate from a repair shop and they’ll send us the final bill when the work is completed. He also called to thank us for the PEX card, assuring us that he wouldn’t use it for inappropriate things.

For someone who lost his home, Burt was more upbeat on the phone than I would imagine I would be. God sends us His people in need and sometimes the resources to answer those needs. God is good, all the time.
