This Week God Brought Us... "Kim" and "Doug"

This week God brought us…”Kim” and “Doug”, who came to the Disaster Assistance Center in the days after the Spokane Complex Fires. Kim and Doug looked and spoke a lot like our usual donor friends, educated and professional. It was easy to consider that they came from a solid middle class life and now found themselves for the first time on the other side of the table, asking for help. At the time we spoke, they did not know if their home was still standing. When they had described their situation and their efforts to be optimistic, we offered the $100 grocery and gas gift cards that we were distributing to all households that had evacuated. Doug’s response to our offer: “Right now, $100 would be life changing.”

May we always remember that we do not know anyone’s whole story. We’re thankful for the generosity of the community that allowed us to be present to so many families.
