This Week God Brought Us... "Nestor"

This week God brought us…”Nestor”, who said a police officer pointed him to us in search of a bus ticket. He comes from a town a few hours away and says he’s been on the streets for a few days after coming to Spokane with friends “who took off and left me.” This is a scenario we hear occasionally and it always sounds less than fully truthful.  Nestor was friendly and articulate and answered our questions easily. Any time we’re considering putting a client on a bus out of town, we always confirm with someone at the destination that the person does, in fact, have a stable place to be at that end. Our phone call reached Nestor’s sister, “Lucia” and their mother. Lucia paused when she understood why we were calling. She revealed that Nestor had come to Spokane for inpatient substance use treatment and had evidently walked away from that. She said “I don’t want to sound mean, but we don’t want him back here. We want what’s best for him and want him to stay in the treatment he needs.” When we explained his to Nestor, he understood.

We pray for Nestor, Lucia and the whole family. Recovery is a long road. Families confront complex challenges in their relationships along that road.
